Steve Dunn recognised as a "State Registered Hairdresser" (90% of Hairdressers are NOT registered)

September 10th, 2007

All available evidence suggests that the vast majority of consumers believe every hairdresser is already registered.

Steve Dunn, Dunn Hair’s Salon Director, has been awarded the status of “State Registered Hairdresser” by the Hairdressing Council.

According to the Hairdressing Council, Great Britain is one of very few countries in which anyone, without registration, qualifications or even any form of recognised training, is free to set up and practice as a hairdresser. The industry is totally unregulated which means there is no one in a position to take action on behalf of consumers against incompetent hairdressers in cases of professional incompetence.

Steve (now Steve Dunn, SRH!) told us The Hairdressing Council’s  acceptance is the ultimate recognition within our industry yet, according to them, fewer than 10% of all hairdressers are registered. You may think nothing of popping into your hairdresser however take a moment to consider the combination of chemicals, heating and technical work – how can you be sure the person is qualified to undertake the technical work?”

Continuing, Steve tells us Being recognised as a State Registered Hairdresser is official recognition under the law, the Hairdressers Registration Act 1964. My Certificate is on display in our salon and on our website. It is underwritten by the law, by Act of Parliament. I am proud to be recognised, it’s not about the letters after my name but about continual Client focus.”

Many successful ‘top name’ stylists are State Registered Hairdressers (SRH) and advocate registration to their staff and other colleagues. Dunn Hair will ensure all its staff are registered as part of their ongoing career development.
